Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
