Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
