Stu is thought to be by many to the very best No Limit Texas holdem Poker player ever.

The 3 time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and began betting poker before becomming a teenager.

The young gambler started out playing gin and at the age of ten had won his first gin tournament, while on vacation with his parents. By the time he turned fourteen the small poker maestro had become a pro and stopped going to school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the record books by winning 10 grand in a gin tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still appears in New York these days.

The fast speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a true skill for playing poker except regardless of his achievements in Texas hold’em poker, he preferred playing gin.

Stu once said that there might several day be a greater No Limit Holdem gambler than him but he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a better gin player.

In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the ideal Texas hold’em Poker players in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Amazingly it was the first time he had entered the tournament.

The subsequent year he put aside any suggestions that it had been luck, by effectively protecting his title. And in 1997 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also battled with substance abuse and a year following succeeding his third title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had died from cardiac arrest which was caused by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started with practically nothing except his ability and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire many times over.
