Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
