Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
