Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
