Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
