Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
