In holdem, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the players put out a particular total of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used term for this play. In the next step, the dealer shuffles the cards and deals out two cards face down to all players. A regular deck of 52 playing cards is used in the deal. After the deal, there is the first round of wagering. This round is usually known as a "pre-flop".

Following the 1st betting round, the first card of the deck is tossed aside. This discarded card is known as the "burn card", and this is performed to make sure that there is absolutely no dishonestly. The next three cards are then dealt face up on the poker table. These cards are ‘the flop’. Now follows a 2nd sequence of wagering, after which the croupier burns another card and turns over one more card onto the poker table. After this, players can employ the sixth card to create a 5card poker hand.

An additional sequence of wagering follows, and in a good many styles of poker, here is where the wager amount doubles. There is a further round of throwing away a card, and a final placing of a card face-up on the poker table. This is referred to as the "river". Players can now employ any of the five cards on the table, and/or the two cards in their pocket, to create a five-card poker hand.

To wrap it up there’s a last round of betting. Then, all the remaining players start to reveal their hands. This is called the "showdown". Beyond a doubt, the competitor who shows the best hand is the winner. When competitors have even hands a splitting of the winnings is considered.

Texas Holdem is a very easy game to understand, but to acquire ability it requires a tonne of practice.
